My first impression of Dr. Patel was that he was very knowledgeable. I had a feeling that I was going to be in very great hands and was not proven otherwise. My impression of him has not changed. So far he has handled every problem I have had with my insurance even after the first denial within a resonable amount of time. Future patients should know that he is very young which some might not like working with a fairly young and new physician, but he seemed very knowlegeable and cautious as well. It did not seem to be a routine with him he seemed to take a personal intrest in my case and helped me in any way that he could. He has several aftercare procedures set up such as they have nurses available to you 24 hrs a day for any question you might have. He also gives you his personal phone number and actually will return your phone call. He has a dietician on staff as well. I was a revision from a lap band and was coverted to a bypass rny so he explained how things might be a little more complicated. Overall I would rate him on a scale from 1-10 10 being good as a 9. I am only 7 days post op and things are going great so far. His surgical skills seem pretty good to me so far. His bedside manner was o.k. as well.

Both my husband and myself felt that Dr. Patel was very personable and took a great deal of time to listen to our concerns and answer our questions. The risks of surgery were explained to us in detail. Dr. Patel is very easy to talk to, beyond competent with an admirable bedside manner. I have recommended many of my friends to him.

I am so grateful Dr. Patel took me as his patient. He new my medical history and although I was using a walker (due to a back injury ) he still helped me- when other doctors wouldn't. Before I met him, I had accepted the fact that I was going to deteriorate mentally and physically, but when he told me with confidence that he would help me, it started a new hope in my life. I prayed and was determined to take full advantage of the chance Dr. Patel was giving me. He is an EXCELLENT surgeon and has a WONDERFUL bedside manner!!! He wants to help those who want to help themselves. His staff was KIND and VERY ATTENTIVE. Everyone did their best to make me feel safe. It is important that people know that having an injury doesn't mean it's the end. Take a chance and find out if you are a candidate for this surgery. It was not easy in the beginning for me because of my back and leg pain, but I will not give up! Walking and swimming is a wonderful tool for an injured person. Anything worth having takes work and effort. Nancy B.

Dr Patel, I first want to thank you for the chance you took on my wife, with her injured back and depression issues, nobody wanted to deal with her. You took the time and had the patience to dive head first into her case, and for the we will both be forever grateful. The care and compassion that you give to each and every patient far exceeds any expectations I could have had, I have heard you with not only my wife, but others and cannot believe that there are still doctors like you out there. Even with the issues of Nuweigh, you and your staff could not have been more pleasant, making every effort to correct the confusion, and getting her in for the surgery. In that situation, I had already given up hope, based on my experience with previous doctors. Now, 3 weeks post-op, my wife seems like a new person!!! She is down a little over 20 lbs, and has more energy, can get around better (even with the back injury), and has such a positive outlook on life. I never imagined that this surgery would have this great of an effect on her. We owe this all to you, and the opportunity that you gave us. Thank you again, and I want to let everyone know that wonderful doctors (Dr Patel), and staff do still exist. Michael B

My situation was a little different becasue I had lap-band surgery in 2003 and I really wanted to have it revised to Gastric Bypass. I felt the complications I had with the band for the little results was not worth it however, over the past year no DR. in San Antonio would even see me. I was told if you chose to get the band in Austin you have to get all care from your surgeon Dr. Fass. I even had one office in SA tell me if I paid them $1,000 they would review my case and decide if they would take on my case. Then I met one of the nurses from Innova Hospital and she said she would talk with her DR. and see if he would see me he instantly said come in for a consultation. Dr. Patel was confident that he could revise my band to a gastric bypass and we bagan the process. I was scheduled for an EGD where they put a camera down your throat to look at your stomach and my stomach was extremely irritated and I was having trouble with severe reflux, Iwas even puking up water. So, based on these findings Dr. Patel wrote a letter of Medical necessity to my insurance and they approved the revision surgery right away. The good about Dr. Patel is that he is very accessible, when I had questions I could call him and he would answer them. I guess the bad if any like most surgeons he can be a little "COCKY" but he definitely believes in helping Obese patients and finding a solution to your specific situation. I felt comfortable allowing him to perform my surgery and would recommend him I know many people are starting to come out with problems with the lap-band. Based on my experience I would recommend Gastric Bypass 100% over the band. Dr. Patel and Innova Hospital will take great care of you if you need to have a revision surgery which is more complicated it is almost like having 2 surgeries in one. 1 to take out the band and 1 to do the gastric bypass. I am 10 days post op and have had no problems, he must have put all my insides back together correctly! Thank youu Dr. Patel for your attention to detail and care to my specific case.

Dr. Patel has been great! He addresses all of my concerns no matter how small and makes me feel important. With my surgery coming up in a little more than a week, I am getting nervous but I know if I need him, he's there. That alone, is comforting. So far my experience with Dr. Patel has been a great one and I am happy with my decision in choosing him as my surgeon ... Well I've had surgery and I am still thrilled with Dr. Patel. You just cannot ask for a better doctor!

Initially Dr. Patel seemed a bit overly enthusiatic, but upon speaking with him it was evident that HIS was a heart felt passion for the care of bariactric patients. I met with him on the phone, then in person and was impressed both times. He seems to be honest, forthright and genuine. Most importantly, I trust him and feel safe in his hands. Although, I had another appointment with a group closer to my home, Dr. Patel's personalized service makes such an impact that any minor inconvienance on my part is not an issue.*** Well, I am adding to this profile to say that I am now post-op and all is well. Dr. Patel is very kind. I credit my doing very well with his expertice. I was up and walking within two hours and besides the gas pain (which subsided quickly) I was simply sore It is my feeling that he so gentle during the surgery that the pain is minimal. Being gentle takes time and patience, two traits that I think that Dr. Patel has been blessed with. Thank you Dr. Patel.

I met Dr. Patel in person today. I've talked with him on the phone and exchanged several e-mails with him. I liked him. He had a very good presentation he gave before I had my one on one consultation. Dr. Patel seems to be very caring and very concerned with giving his patients the best of care. I had made an appointment with another surgeon for a consultation but I'm going to cancel it after meeting and talking with Dr. Patel.

I was very impressed with the knowledge he has. He has a great bed side manner, very funny. I could not have asked for a better surgeon, to take my case on. His staff awesome. There very helpful and believe me I bugged them alot with questions and concerns I had. They always were able to answer my questions. I can't say there was anything I liked least about him or the staff. Future patients should know they will be in great hands! Yes, he does offer an aftercare program that he strongly recommends you attend. He told me all the risk up front did not sugar coat anything. I would rate him at 10! I feel both are good esp. if the doctor has a sense of humor it makes it just go so much smoother.

Dr. Patel is very encouraging and supportive. He seems to care very much about the person/patient and about the procedure and it's ability to help obese people. He was the partner of Dr. Colella, Pittsburgh, PA, who was my choice of surgeon's based on mostly internet research and then feeling very good about him after my first consultation. I didn't know about Dr. Patel until I met him right before surgery. I survived the surgery with little complication which is great since I was high risk due to my starting weight being 511lbs. They were able to do it lap which says something about their skills and experience! Texas is lucky to have him now. I sure miss his encouragement!
