Most people can't say they enjoy their job, or that they are passionate about what they do. Ann embodies these phrases, while practicing what she teaches. Ann is an advocate for nutrition and health. One of the important things to her is to teach and not preach. Awareness of the effects of nutrition is her first step. We rely on Ann's creativity to peak the interest of our patients.
Ann was born in Texas and got back as soon as she could. With her father in the military, she grew up with the nomad lifestyle and began to welcome the opportunity to explore new places and meet new and different people. She traveled through out the country with her parents and 3 younger brothers and sister. She owes her passionate personality and educational persistence to her parents, and strives to have their compassion and heart. She is not afraid to admit that she is 100% a daddy's girl. We are all in awe of how Ann finds time to work as much as she does, spend time with her friends and family and still travel as much as she does.
Ann began her education at the University of North Texas actually studying design. Ann's first nutrition class grasped her attention and didn't let go. She quickly began to research schools and transferred to Texas Woman's University to begin studying dietetics. She continued her passion in school by volunteering in children's nutrition education with local area food banks and the North Texas Bariatric Weight Loss Center. She found her calling, and excitedly took on the role of educator.
She began to search for perfect fit in her field, and after connecting with Dr. Patel and his team packed her bags and moved from Dallas to San Antonio to complete our bariatric team in '08.
Ann has since completed over 500 nutritional evaluations, created our pre and post operative classes, began our TBS newsletter and enhanced our post-operative continuous care tremendously. Ann is director of 3 area bariatric support groups in Austin, Corpus Christi and San Antonio. She has expanded this program to embody all aspects of post-operative care to include not only topics in healthy foods, but forming new habits, mental and physical fitness, changing the habits of the family all while introducing speakers from many stages of post-surgery. The challenge is reaching out… allowing each patient to realize that you can you stay on track and we are there to help you any way we can.
